51 years after Dr Cathy Dewes joined The Māori Language Society, Ngā Tamatoa and many others in the fight for te reo Māori, stories continue to emerge about the struggles Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ruamata endured on their journey to normalising the language in all settings, including Aotearoa’s hockey fields.

It’s More Than Hockey will be released on RNZ platforms this November.

Kutaroa Marae opens after more than 40 years.

Ngāti Tauaiti hapū was joined by various uri of Tauranga Moana over the weekend to celebrate the opening of their marae which was laid to rest in 1982.

"The declining population on Matakana in the late 1970s, issues of access and challenges associated with maintenance, lead to the aged building being laid to rest in 1982,” - Mererina Murray

Ngāti Māhanga and Ngāti Te Wehi uri, Merepaia King, has been sworn in as a permanent judge of the Employment Court on her marae, Te Papa o Rotu, in Whatawhata.

Ms King was a partner in Buddle Finlay, after starting her legal career in 2005 at Tompkins Wake in Hamilton.

She has specialised in employment and health and safety law.

Garth Watene was there.
